SMS is participating in the “Pennies for Patients” fundraiser which benefits Blood Cancer Research through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  This is our 4th year supporting this program. We have currently raised $923.12. The fundraiser ends on Wednesday, April 11th. Our goal is to raise $1,500. AG classes are bringing in money daily which is being tracked. The winning AG class will be receiving a pasta party from The Olive Garden (which partners with this fundraiser on a national level.) If you have spare change around, please remember to send it with your student to help this cause. The funds raised go towards finding a cure for blood cancers as well as helping families affected by the disease.

We are in the process of trying to become an Oregon Green School.  There are many schools across Oregon that take part in this program. They have students and staff making a difference in their schools and communities with programs to recycle, reduce waste, save energy and conserve water.  The program is dedicated to energizing and engaging students through student-driven activities that advance their understanding and ownership of sustainability.  The Leadership Class at SMS has helped with a waste audit here at school, done by Marion County, where we learned what waste could have been recycled.  We have started organizing projects we can do to set up and maintain better waste reduction in our school.  This is the beginning of the process but we wanted to let you know as you will periodically receive information on the Green School Project.

Mrs. Fierro’s class is collecting supplies for the Human Society for Service Learning Day. They would like to ask for the help of the student body to bring in donations for the animals.  They will be delivering them on Monday, April 9th.

WyldLife is on Saturday evening (April 7th) from 7-8:30 pm at Mark Twain gym. All students in 6th-8th grade are welcome to attend. It’s a fun evening that you won’t want to miss!

Please always take a moment to take a look at the attached flyers that pertain to SMS, sports and community events.

ASAP (After School Activities Program) is open for all 6th – 8th graders!!!  Applications can be obtained on their website, www.asapsilvertonor.org or in the office.  ASAP is on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s and SMS students will ride Bus #15 to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, which is located at 303 N. Did you know you can now view your child’s meal account balance and pay online? It’s true! Just visit the Mealtime Pay Online website (http://www.mymealtime.com) and sign up for an account. You can add all of your Silver Falls School District students to your account and view all their meal balances in one easy-to-use location. Please note: you will require the student ID (aka the “lunch number”) for each child you wish to add. Please check with your students, as most of them know their number already. If you need further assistance, please contact your child’s school. You can always find this link and current meal menus on the SFSD website, on the meal menus page, found here: http://silverfallsschools.org/lunch-menus/.   There is a $1.22 fee assessed when you add funds to your account.
