At the start of this calendar year, Silverton Middle School adopted the same weekly schedule as the High School in having RIE every Thursday. The difference is, of course, that our students remain at school during RIE, which is the last hour of the day. We are excited to offer to our students opportunities in Remediation, Intervention, and Extension. Based on a student’s STAR Assessment scores, he or she will be requested to attend a class in Language Arts or Math Intervention if it appears that assistance is needed to get that student up to grade level. Or, if grade level is being met according to the STAR Assessment, students will have the opportunity to choose one of many Extension activities. This month, we have had some amazing learning opportunities; here are just some of them: Math Pentagames, History Simulation, Military Drill and Ceremony, Oregon Battle of the Books, Power Points and Google Documents, and Basic Welding & Other Shop Skills. Plus more! Students made their top three choices which will be honored through March RIE (as long as Assessment scores are agreeable).
Here are just a few pictures of some of the activities during this month’s RIE. More pictures to come in the future!
