Weekly Parent Email for the Week of:

September 25th -29th

Good Afternoon Silverton Middle School Parents and Families!

SMS Information:

The SMS Parent Club is selling Falcon T-shirts for $10.  You can send your student with cash or a check made out to Silver Fox Foundation.

Thank you for your support in getting your students to school on time. Please continue to encourage them to be ready and prepared for class upon the starting bell. We are encouraging responsible choices and hoping for very few tardies as the beginning of class is often the most vital! In support of our tardy policy students will begin to receive detention for every three unexcused tardies accumulated. Let’s make it a great week!

During the week of September 25th -29th all 7th graders at Silverton Middle School will be given a test of intellectual ability called the Raven.  Silver Falls School District uses this information to screen students for eligibility for services in the Talented and Gifted Program.  Students who score at the 97th percentile or higher proceed through the identification process.  The Raven is a measure of general intellectual ability, not of any knowledge or skill.  It is a series of increasingly complex designs, and students look for patterns and relationships.  Students usually find it fun to take.  There is no way, or reason, to prepare for the test.

If you have any questions or would like to receive copies of the scores, please make an appointment to meet with Hillary Parksion, Silverton Middle School Counselor at 503-873-5317 or parksion_hillary@silverfalls.k12.or.us.

Bus Forms – If you child is going to go home with a friend or is taking a bus somewhere other than their normal bus route home, Durham Bus Service now requires parents to fill out an  “Alternate Stop – Student Bus Note”.  Students can obtain this Alternate Stop note in the office if there is going to be a change in their after school schedules.  There is also a copy of the new form attached to this email.  Students will not be allowed to ride a bus that is different than their bus without this note.

If you have bus questions, please reference the online route schedule that Durham Bus Services has provided at: https://silverfallsschools.org/bus-routes/.

If you are applying for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program, please turn in your applications ASAP.  The deadline for applying is fast approaching, so please get them turned in.
