Students getting their bike course instructions

Our Bicycle Safety Day with the Silverton Police Department on October 6th for SMS 6th graders was a great success.  Many students rode their bikes to school; or, some parents brought their student’s bicycle in their vehicle so that they could participate!  Our bike racks were full, and those students who didn’t have a bike on campus could borrow one from the SPD’s loaner inventory.  Students were able to bike through mini stop and yield signs, crosswalks, and a course requiring them to follow directions.  Of course, they had to use hand signals and wear their helmets!  Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate for the scheduled 7th & 8th graders on Oct. 7th.  This was a great deal of fun as well as a good learning experience and reminder about bicycle safety.  Thank you Silverton Police!

Cool bike!
