SMS Falcon Weekly Email

January 8th – 12th

Greetings Silverton Middle School Parents and Families!

SMS Information:

Hello SMS parents! First, I would like to thank you all for your patience in the mornings with our traffic. It has gotten much better and seems to be running more smoothly than ever, but from time to time we still get some backups.  Because of this I wanted to mention a couple reminders. First, please remember that there are two lanes on the south end of the parking lot. This was done to prevent traffic from backing up into the street, so I ask that we please use both of them. Second, I ask, when leaving the parking lot we should be going straight down Schlador St and not making a left turn onto Brown St. The traffic that turns onto Brown St. can often cause a “bottleneck” and further slow the movement of traffic. Lastly please remember that the district parking lot is the only safe place to drop off and/or pick up your kids. It is dark and often rainy in the mornings and I fear one of the kids running across the street could get hurt. Also I often see cars in front of the school impeding traffic of busses and furthering the slowdowns in traffic. We all need to work together to keep our kids safe, and that is my number one priority! Again, thank you all for your patience and for allowing me to look after your kids during the school day. It is truly a pleasure and I look forward to seeing their faces every single day!                                                           Eric “Captain Awesome” Rappe’ – Campus Monitor.

The Silverton Middle School, Winter Wonderland Dance is tonight from 7-9pm.  The cost is $8 at the door.

State Law requires that each Oregon school district notify families of their right to exempt (opt out) their child from the summative English language arts and/or math tests given this spring, including the Smarter Balanced and Extended Assessments.  Please see the attached documents that outline this process.

Please take a look at the attached JBO Baseball, Canyonview, YMCA Basketball and SACA Food Drive flyers.

Please take a look at the updated school snow bus routes that are now posted on the Silver Falls School District Website.  There are changes to most snow routes this year, so please take the time to familiarize yourself with your route. It is important to be proactive and review this information before you need it and be ready to go should we have inclement weather.  Please also remember that if we have snow routes in the morning, regardless of how much weather conditions improve throughout the day, snow routes will be in effect for the afternoon as well. Here is the link to the SFSD website: http://silverfallsschools.org.

The Silverton Middle School Food Drive dates are January 2nd through January 22nd.  Please see the attached flyer for more details.

7th graders are required to have the 6th in the series of the TDAP booster.  Please have your child get their booster prior to January 15th, as we need time to process the documentation before Exclusion Day.  Contact your personal care provider to get information about your child’s immunization records.

ASAP (After School Activities Program) is open for all 6th – 8th graders!!!  Applications can be obtained on their website, www.asapsilvertonor.org or in the office.  ASAP is on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s and SMS students will ride Bus #15 to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, which is located at 303 N.
